Our Story

Established in Shipman, Illinois in 1980

n 1989 Foster & Teresa Harman and Mike & Stacy Harman purchased the old Shipman Lumber property on Highway 16 in Shipman, IL, in hopes that they could make a successful auction company.  Foster & Teresa (Mike’s parents) have since passed away, leaving the auction business to Mike, Stacy and the boys. Mike, Stacy and their sons Mark, Jeff and John have all contributed to building the business, and making Harman Auction one of the largest auction companies in the metro east.

In the fall of 2018 Mike and Stacy purchased Hilltop Auction Center on Fosterburg Rd. in Alton, IL. The family currently has weekly auctions at their Shipman location every Tuesday at 4:30 and a second auction every Thursday at their Alton location. Both auctions are closed during the months of January and July.

For the past 25 years Mike, Stacy and the boys have also had a family band – The Harmans Bluegrass. Their style ranges from traditional to contemporary bluegrass, country, gospel and other various types of music. The Harmans host a variety music show at Harman Auction the first Saturday of the each month from November through April. The show starts at 7:00 p.m.
